  Summer Holiday Learning…
Look on the school website at http://nayland.suffolkschools.net for heaps of ideas for Summer learning activities and links to websites. The Summer vacation is very long and children can really benefit from a little learning to keep those brains tuned in. All of the web links have been checked so you can be sure that if your child follows a link from the school website they will go directly to a safe learning opportunity. Please remember that all reading is valuable so READ, READ, READ!

Think ahead and order your uniform for September online at www.swfl.co.uk The Summer holidays are their busiest time so early orders are advised. Although we do hold some uniform in school we cannot guarantee items being available in your requested size during high demand.

Dinner £…Please ensure all bills are paid immediately. Any queries over accounts to the school office please.

Clubs…
Clubs begin again the week commencing 7th September except for Church Club which starts on 15th September. Children need to enrol even if they have been part of a club before and places will be given on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

Woodland Corner…
Please complete a registration form if you wish to use any of the Woodland Corner services. Once this form is completed you are welcome to contact Woodland Corner on a casual basis when you need help with childcare or to register for regular sessions.

There are playgroup places available still available for September so if you or a friend has a little one register quickly, this situation will not last!

Important! The Big Babergh Initiative will be bringing ‘Turn up and Play’ to the Nayland School site on 20th July 9 -12 noon and  26th August 1 -4pm.If you wish to access this free facility you must accompany your child. The Babergh staff are not employed to care for the children, simply to bring the equipment and encourage play. Children will only be cared for by Woodland Corner if they are booked in for the day and fees have been paid.

Our school year started with and unexpected but extremely positive visit from OFSTED and has continued in this fantastic way. The learning, sporting, musical and so many other super opportunities have been enjoyed by all and the children have learned well in this happy and safe environment.

I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to all of the children, parents and governors who give so much support to Nayland School.

My deepest gratitude goes to the best staff team in the world without whom we would not be an ‘outstanding’ school.

Thank you all, see you in September!   RD x

Blue Bulletin 1....2009/10

Please make sure you have made an appointment to see you class teacher(s) so that they can share next steps in learning for your child and let you know how you can support at home.

Learning Market…On Tuesday 3rd November we are offering a opportunity for parents to get targeted advice on how they can support at home with certain areas of literacy and maths learning e.g. times table and tricky spellings. Parents will be able to choose from a range of 10 minute workshops hosted by staff between 3-30 and 4-30pm and then repeated from 7 -8pm. Hopefully mums, dads and other carers will be able to make one of these times. Your involvement in your child’s learning is invaluable and we know how to make it fun so come along and let us share our experience…between us we have been teaching for well over a hundred years! More details to follow.

Harvest/Thanksgiving… The popularity of our little school means that having all of the children and parents in the hall now breaches fire safety regulations so we have devised a new format for this celebration. Parents can drop children at school at 9am, pop into the hall for a short presentation about our charity and some wonderful pictures of children learning and then set out to visit classes and children actively finding out about our chosen charity and its needs until 9-50am. The children will then fill the school with music lead by the choir and you can make a small donation if you wish. We hope that this will allow all parents to enjoy some time in school with children instead of a quick glimpse from the back of a hot and crowded hall.

Our chosen charity is The Glee Needy School in Mombasa Kenya which myself and my family visited in the Summer. The school caters for 324 children, 44 of whom are orphans. There is no orphanage and these children live where they can around the village. The headteacher of the school met with me and explained that clothing these children and providing the simplest of resources is a huge challenge.

We intend to put some boxes in the foyer for parents and children to donate pencils, rubbers and other small stationery items as well as shorts, t-shirts, sandals and flip-flops that your children may have outgrown this Summer. We do not need heavy items or cold weather clothing. Parents will also be able to make a small donation towards the cost of sending these items to Kenya. Unfortunately the political situation in Kenya is such that sending money does not guarantee the help to those who really need it.

Dinner £…School dinners will cost £2 from next half term. Please ensure all bills are paid immediately. Any queries over accounts to the school office please.

Woodland Corner…
Please complete a registration form if you wish to use any of the Woodland Corner services. Once this form is completed you are welcome to contact Woodland Corner on a casual basis when you need help with childcare or to register for regular sessions. An open day will be held later this half term for any parents who would like to pop in for a look around and a chat with staff about services offered.

A morning session at breakfast Club and an after school session mean that a Christmas shopping day to Lakeside or Blue Water are perfectly possible. Please call 01206 263054 for details and special offers.

There are still one or two playgroup places available still available so if you or a friend has a little one register quickly, this situation will not last!

Blue Bullets 2...

Christmas…Please see the list of December dates and events attached. I hope this is helpful.

Parent Meetings…All children and parents now know next steps in learning and we do hope you are learning at home!

Learning Market…59 children were represented at the Learning Market last week. The feedback was extremely positive with parents feeling more willing and able to support learning at home in lots of fun ways. Thanks to the staff who gave up their time for this event.

Governors…The governors have a dedicated e-mail (naylandgovs@hotmail.com) so that parents can contact them with comments or questions….positive feedback is welcomed too. There is also a governor contact box in the school entrance and a page on the school website.

KS1 and 2 Parties…This is such a busy time of year and so to save you a little time (and to save ourselves from being left with truckloads of food) we would ask that each child brings £1 into school for party food. We will then purchase a selection of healthy bits and a few treats too for each of the parties. On party day the children can come into school in non-uniform clothes. We know they love to dress up for parties but please note that it will be a whole school day with lots of activities and it may include glue and paint….a very expensive designer outfit may not withstand the onslaught so choose carefully!

Duckling and Cygnet Parties…Please sign on the lists for party food, the younger children have a morning party and lunch. Dress guidance as above!

Harvest/Thanksgiving… Many thanks for your donations, we are busy sorting and sending now so no more thank you.

Absence...It is rare for Nayland to miss a goal but absences at school last year meant that attendance was below target and early indicators are that we are below this year too. Research shows that there is a very strong relationship between high attendance and high attainment, common sense really, if the children are not here we cannot teach them. Please take holidays during school closure and only keep your child at home if they are too ill to manage a school day, are infectious or have suffered from sickness or diarrhoea in the past 24 hours.

Punctuality…School begins at 9am and ends at 3-25pm. Please ensure you are on time for learning. We understand that unavoidable delays sometimes happen, it is polite to phone and let staff know and we can also reassure your children that you are on your way.

Bikes, Scooters and Signs…Have you all noticed the fantastic bike and scooter pod and the safety signs around school. Please read them with your children and take note e.g. use the path to walk into school.

Parking…I have been asked to point out that some parents park in the staff car park at drop off and pick up times and this is dreadfully unfair to those parents who park on the road and walk into school as requested. I know I have said this hundreds of times but if there is not enough room for all parents’ cars than there is not enough room for one. Thank you to all those parents who do park appropriately.
